XMAS Break
Well the “Fall Flu” prior post was a harbinger for things to come. What should have gotten better in early November only got worse, with me eventually catching the same type of virus and going down for the count for the last 5-6 weeks. I’ve come out fine but am now dealing with a right ear issue that combines tinnitus, a feeling of fullness and damage to my inner ear nerve which has caused permanent 10% hearing loss. Not a fun holiday season for sure! The good news is that the boys and I are now finally healthy, although now VOVO and my sister both have pneumonia as we speak. On the school front, Shane ended up the semester with straight A’s (nothing lower than a 98) and Jack had a solid semester of As and Bs as well. Shane also won the Hendricken Science Fair and also placed in the 99th percentile for his age for the PSAT. Quite a semester for Shano! On the college front, Jack has received acceptances from URI, PC, Fordham and Pepperdine and got deferred from BC. He’s still waiting for 10+ other schools, including UVA, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, the Cal schools and Emory.
This past week we travelled to Bretton Woods for XMAS break and had a blast. The boys are now a level better than me on the slopes, which makes me proud. It’s amazing just how fast and in control they can now ski down a mountain. Favorite trails included Crawford’s Blaze and No Regrets, whereas Cous Caper was our arch nemesis due to its lack of grooming (Shano and I both fell on this one). We also loved the Omni Mount Washington Hotel across the street. Yesterday we also went to Boston with Scotty (home from London) and had a blast. We played mini-golf at Puttshack, went to TimeOut for lunch near Fenway and ended the day eating burgers and fries at Shake Shack. Some highlights of the day included Shane feeling sorry for himself that he hasn’t yet gotten even to first base with a girl and the Tiger Woods Jr and Jack team beating me (Ciunciking) and Da Shaner at Puttshack. Note: we would have won if it weren’t for hole # 6 where both Scott and Jack hit the 80 point jackpot!!!
