Summer Memories

Well, today is Labor Day and I’m sad to say that the summer is officially over. So many memorable moments come to mind. Napa and playing with Dean, winning the 4th of July doubles tourney with Shane, getting to the finals of the consolation draw of Longwood, competing hard at Agawam, beating the Snyman’s in the Warwick Heights tourney, and watching Shane dramatically progress in tennis throughout the summer. I also am so proud to say that Shane completed his Google Data Analytics 6-month class this summer and is now officially certified after completing his case study. Shane also put in the time and effort to retake the Spanish entrance exam and is now officially in Spanish 2. Great work! This summer Shane also has continued to increase his TikTok followers to nearly 10,000 and has his sights set on 50,000 soon enough. In addition to playing tons of tennis, Jack completed another successful year as Point Judith’s assistant teaching pro as well as completed all of his college essays in advance of the school year. Great work Jack! His college search has been narrowed down to ~ 10 schools, with Boston College being in the top position. He’ll be applying “Early Decision” (ED) in another month or so. Fingers crossed! Jack is also working hard with Andy to make sure he gets ahead in his Calculus class.
This past week the boys and I finished off our summer by travelling to Millbrook and then to the US Open. We had a great time all around. Jack went 3-0 in grudge match baseline games against Paul, and I was a not-too-shabby 3-1 in games. We also played doubles together, with Shane playing as Paul’s partner and doing great. Once our dominance in Millbrook came to an end, we drove Jack’s X3 to NYC. We ended up walking to Katz Deli (per Shane’s insistence) but unfortunately came up short given the line was 2 blocks deep. We settled on a great high-end Italian joint on Mulberry Street in Little Italy. The raviolis, chicken parm and vodka penne were amazing! That night we ventured to the US Open and watched the end of the Cilic/Evans match on the Grandstand. From there we watched Nakoshima beat Sinner in the 1st set on Louis Armstrong before heading back to the City. The next morning we walked to the 9/11 Memorial and came away somber and blown away by what we just witnessed. All in all, our Labor Day weekend was great given it was filled with some competitive playing with friends, watching the Open and experiencing much of what the City had to offer. Thanks for a great summer, boys! I love you both and can’t wait to see what you accomplish in the upcoming school year!!
